BBB-EXP7H

The BBB-EXP7H is a 7-inch LCD expansion board designed specifically for the BeagleBone Black (BBB), providing a robust and feature-rich platform for embedded and industrial applications. With its compact touchscreen display and multiple onboard interfaces, it transforms the BBB into a full-fledged Human-Machine Interface (HMI). This expansion board is ideal for developers building industrial control systems, smart kiosks, automation interfaces, or any project that requires a responsive visual display with integrated I/O and communication options.

Hardware description

BBB-EXP7H is available in two touchscreen versions—capacitive and resistive—with a 1024×600 resolution panel that ensures crisp visuals and smooth touch interaction. It includes integrated audio with a 1W speaker, microphone input, and standard 3.5mm jacks for both input and output. The hardware also supports multiple communication protocols, including RS232, RS485, and CAN, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial devices. Additional features such as user-defined buttons and LEDs, a buzzer, a three-axis accelerometer, and RTC support (via optional battery) enhance the versatility of the board. The BBB-EXP7H is powered by a 5V DC input and consumes approximately 3W, making it energy-efficient for continuous operation.

Integration with BeagleBone Black

The CS-BBB-EXP50 is designed to connect directly to the BeagleBone Black via its expansion headers, ensuring straightforward physical and electrical integration. To prevent damage, users must follow the orientation markings on the silkscreen carefully, as incorrect installation can permanently harm both the BBB and the expansion board.
Once connected, the board draws power directly from the BeagleBone Black, eliminating the need for an external power adapter—though it’s essential to use a 5V adapter capable of supplying at least 1A to the BBB, as USB OTG power is insufficient.
The board includes a boot switch that allows users to toggle between booting from the microSD card or eMMC memory—an especially helpful feature since the BBB’s onboard boot button becomes inaccessible after installation. Additional features like EEPROM address configuration and expansion connectors help ensure full compatibility and flexibility with various BeagleBone Black-based setups.
